Half-Life Official For Dreamcast

It's about time. Get all the details here

At the Milia trade show in Cannes, France, Sierra and Valve today announced their official plans to bring everyone's favourite first-person shooter, Half-Life, to Dreamcast this summer. Even more interesting is that the company are claiming the Dreamcast version will be the ultimate incarnation of the game.

Aside from modernised visuals, the Dreamcast edition will include an all-new single-player mission that's based around a Black Mesa security guard. This marks yet another perspective to play the same series of events from - it will be very interesting to see how you cross paths with Gordon and the military teams from Opposing Force.

"Valve's number one objective is to deliver state of the art entertainment experiences that push the envelope with every new release," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and Managing Director of Valve. "By partnering with Sega our intention is to create an incredible new version of Half-Life that takes full advantage of Sega Dreamcast's architecture."

Few other specifics were released, but it seems probable that the game will include full Dreamcast Network multiplayer support. If it does, there's no doubt that Half-Life will be one of the top Dreamcast games. There's no word on whether Opposing Force will be included, but it seems likely.

"Half-Life has become a big franchise with 1.5 million units sold worldwide," said Hubert Joly, CEO of Havas Interactive. "Its immersive environment, the depth of its story and its unique action characters lend themselves well to creating a great console product that takes advantage of the high performance of the Sega Dreamcast."
