| Dark Sector: The Next Big Online Juggernaut? |
Digital Extremes announce the next step from Unreal Tournament, and it's massively multiplayer
Digital Extremes are currently working on a massive online multiplayer game, mixing the action found in Unreal Tournament with an element of character development through persistent online play. This sounds like a huge undertaking, but if they can pull off everything they're talking about, this could be one of the biggest games ever.
Here's a little ditty from the press release describing the background of the game: "Dark Sector is set in the wake of world devastation, where survivors are scattered throughout the solar system in a vast crumbling network of outposts and space stations. Anarchy reigns as violent factions wage war over limited resources. The remnants of world government have sanctioned bounty hunting in a desperate attempt to control the growing chaos."
So down to the nitty gritty. This game is going to be constant, so your character will be able to progress in stature and fame as you play. Right off the bat you get to make a choice - will you be a good bounty hunter or a bad bounty hunter? You can choose to hunt down your target from planet to planet or to hunt the law-abiding citizens around you. Sure, it sounds like fun to be the bad guy, but eventually you'll get a price on your head and it'll continue to get bigger until even your friends will look to you as an easy way to gain some cash.
