| Pac-Man goes to Hasbro |
Hasbro sign rights for Namco classics
Toy giant Hasbro Interactive have signed up the rights to some of Namco's classic arcade hits from days of yore. Essentially, this means that we're going to see a plethora of updated, uprated oldies which may have been better left as they were. The Namco games include Pac-Man, Galaga, Galaxian, Bosconian and Pole Position among others. Hasbro will only be able to produce PC versions of Pac-Man, but in other cases, we will more than likely see console updates.
Hasbro's biggest oldie update is Frogger, which performed well on PC and PlayStation, and they're currently in the throes of completing a 3D version of Centipede. Hasbro are reportedly planning to show new versions of Pong and Tetris at E3 in Los Angeles, too. The 20th anniversary of the release of Pac-Man is likely to see renewed interest in the classics but with Dreamcast due to launch soon and the impending PlayStation 2, do gamers really want rehashed versions of Pong? We'll see...
