A series of Mickey Mouse-based games from Rare are on the way to N64 and Project Dolphin
Nintendo announced today that they will be publishing approximately 13 Disney-licensed Mickey Mouse-based games across N64, Game Boy Color and their next-generation hardware, codenamed Project Dolphin. The games, set to arrive this year, 2000 and 2001, will be developed by none other than Rare (GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie), widely considered one of the most talented software-makers in the industry.
At least two Mickey Mouse titles are confirmed to appear on the N64, the first of which is a racer scheduled for a late '99 release (this may be pushed back into 2000), followed by a Mickey Mouse 'adventure' game some time next year. Late 2001, meanwhile, promises a Mickey-based game of some kind for Project Dolphin, Nintendo's top-secret next-generation console. This game officially marks the first confirmed title for the system. All of the scheduled releases are said to be 3D polygonal titles.
"The incomparable ability of Rare to create interactive magic is about to be integrated with the incomparable appeal of Mickey Mouse," commented Howard Lincoln, chairman, Nintendo of America. "The results will broaden the appeal of videogaming to an ever-widening number of households around the world."
The deal also gives Disney Interactive the rights to develop a series of Game Boy Color titles. Look for games based on classic cartoons Beauty and the Beast and Alice in Wonderland to arrive for the handheld later this year.
