Gremlin name dropped

Sheffield softco renamed after buyout

First they were Gremlin Graphics, then they became Gremlin Interactive. And then Infogrames moved in. The French behemoth, who swallowed Ocean (thirsty work, eh?), have acquired Gremlin and the Yorkshire softco will now be re-named Infogrames Sheffield House.

Jumpers for goalposts! Progress, they call it. Gradually, Britain's software companies are being bought by mega-corporations and their identity is lost for good. Infogrames have expanded massively in the past year or so and the French giants want to be big world players.

The Actua Sports brand that Gremlin have created must have been one of the Sheffield company's major attractions. Actua Soccer 3 remains Future Gamer's favoured footer title, and in the spirit of things, we've put together our favourite Gremlin games from down the years. Here goes...

Actua Soccer 3 (PlayStation)
Monty On The Run (C64)
Deflektor (Atari ST)
Thing On A Spring (Spectrum)
Body Harvest (N64)
Realms of the Haunting (PC)
Motorhead (PlayStation)
