The Spy Who Bashed Me |
One of the coolest games of the '80s speeds to the N64
The music alone was worth the price of admission to the James Bond-inspired thrill ride that was Spy Hunter back in 1983. The film did so many things right it could easily be considered a classic and now it's coming to a next generation system near you, courtesy of Paradigm and Midway. An earnest update to the George Gomez-designed spy game should be a sure-fire winner.
Imagine hopping into your spymobile loaded with all the essential spymobile weapons like oil slicks, smoke screens and headlight machine guns and chasing down those faceless bad guys, all to the groovy tunes of a Peter Gunn-like theme song. We can just see the cool sunglasses and scantily clad spy groupies now. The battle in the air, on the road and across the water will be updated for the next millennium and thrown into a full 3D environment... whatever system it's on.
Although Paradigm will develop the game and Midway will publish it, there's been no official announcement of the game coming to the N64. However, with Paradigm's already impressive track record on the N64 with such games as Beetle Adventure Racing, Pilotwings 64 and F-1 World Grand Prix, it wouldn't make sense to skip the N64 when they bring out Spy Hunter.
With Midway's emphasis on releasing games for the 21st century, there's a possibility that Spy Hunter may not be intended for the N64 at all, but could be an early title for the next Nintendo console now known as Project: Dolphin.
