Dreamcast forecast

Sega set UK Dreamcast targets

Sega have revealed that they expect to sell a million Dreamcast consoles in Europe in its first year of release. Sega Europe's CEO, Jean-Francois Cecillon, told trade paper MCV: "We are targeting a million sales by September 2000, that's 500,000 in the first six months and another 500,000 in the second half".

Commenting on the Dreamcast's considerable price drop in Japan (by one third, no less), Cecillon insisted that it wouldn't make a difference to the European launch price. "They (Sega Japan) have reached phase two and clearly have to react in a certain way to increase sales," he said. "They are already at a million units but must ensure they are competitive with Sony and Nintendo. It is a radical price drop and I am pleased they have done it, but it makes no difference at all to anything we're doing".
