Mobile 3D accelerators

S3 Inc. deliver first 3D accelerator to PC laptops

Laptops have to be one of the greatest inventions ever made. You can do your homework, check your email, surf the web, with the right extensions of course, from just about anywhere on the planet. But you know what really sucks about laptops? High-end games look like crap because there isn't any 3D accelerator support available, until now. S3 have just announced two new 3D accelerators for mobile PCs - the Savage/MX and the Savage/IX.

"Redesigning the Savage architecture to work within a mobile environment, without sacrificing performance, is a major milestone in S3's effort to drive the PC graphics industry in new directions," said Dr. Andrew Wolfe, chief technology officer for S3 Incorporated. "We expect the mobile Savage family to not only move S3 forward, but to move PC computing forward as well - delivering no-compromise graphics and no-compromise mobility for the first time ever".

S3's mobile Savage promises to deliver faster 3D performance, stunning image quality, 16Mb memory support, complete multi-monitor technology, lightning-fast 2D acceleration and hardware-accelerated DVD playback. Based on S3's highly acclaimed Savage desktop architecture, the Savage/MX and Savage/IX are scheduled to hit the shelves this September. The Savage/MX will have an M.S.R.P. set at $42 while the Savage/IX will retail at just under $50.
