PlayStation: The Final Frontier

Activision hook up with former Colony Wars and Privateer teams to bring Star Trek to the PlayStation

What could be better for shooter fans? Activision confirmed today that British developers Warthog, made up of former Privateer and Colony Wars team members, will develop the very first Star Trek game for the PlayStation. At first word of this amazing fact, every one of the 5,456,330,000 Tribbles in space stopped breeding to celebrate.

Basing its story on Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes, Activision's as-yet-unnamed space shooter should ship to retailers in summer 2000. In this multi-objective game, players will pilot the Federation's newest single pilot fighters, investigating unseen space oddities, strategising defences to protect the Federation and solving the mystery of the open rift in the Beta Quadrant.

"We are very excited to bring the Star Trek universe to the PlayStation for the first time," said Mitch Lasky, Executive Vice President at Activision Studios. "The game's rich storyline and action-packed gameplay will appeal to a wide audience, including casual and hardcore gamers and Star Trek fans alike."

Activision said that the title is "a visually stunning, fast-paced space shooter, with 30 diverse missions in which players pilot multiple vessels, including all new ships, in an attempt to defend the Federation from a mysterious threat".

Players will encounter The Borg, Klingons and new alien races.
