Code Monkeys everywhere, rejoice!
At the recent Tokyo Meltdown Conference in Japan, Microsoft officially announced an upgrade of their DirectX software to DirectX 7. This improved version will not only make its way to the PC, but will reportedly be used with the Dreamcast as well.
For those of you that don't know, DirectX is basically a library of instructions that aid in the standardised coding of software. With the Dreamcast currently using version 6.1, it'll be interesting to see what effects this latest instalment will have on forthcoming software.
Whether it makes Dreamcast development any easier remains to be seen, but it will certainly make ports of the latest PC titles more attractive. This has to be considered a good thing for the future expansion of the Dreamcast software selection.
