Shoddy Sensi Explained

Dear Future Gamer

In response to Simon Finnigan's letter (FG45) which was in response to my letter concerning your putting our conversion of Sensi Soccer in FG42's Hall of Shame):

1. The game runs at the same framerate as most other PlayStation football games. I said that in my original letter. Probably only ISS Pro runs faster. Have a look for yourself. In fact, most other PlayStation games run at around 16-20 fps.

2. You cannot compare the speed to that of the Amiga version. The Amiga version was specifically written in 100% Assembly language for an 8MHz (just under 8MHz, actually) Amiga. That's why it was fast - totally different code.

The PlayStation version was specifically written for a 166MHz PC in C. It's not actually the 3D rendering that was slow, it was the bloated AI and completely inseparable motion capture code that was the bottleneck. It was slow on a 166MHz PC, so I didn't stand much chance on a 25MHz PSX, did I?

Mark Adamson, Krisalis Software Ltd.

FG: Okay Mark, you've put us straight on the reasons for Sensi on the PlayStation being so poor and I sympathise with you. Let's move on, shall we?
