There's now another reason to buy a Dreamcast on import and it's called Revive - Revival. In this game you play a male student, trapped in a laboratory building with a group of girls. Expect to have to rescue them all.
The Japanese obsession with music and dancing games seems to be reaching fever pitch. Konami are currently working on a number of arcade titles in Japan, including a new version of Beat Mania called Beat Mania - 4th Mix. Following close behind are Dance Dance Revolution 3rd Mix and Guitar Freaks 2nd Mix. But most exciting is the release later this month of a new interface card called BEMANI Club Kit, which will be used to connect different Konami music games for team play. Imagine playing air guitar on Guitar Freaks while your friend attempts to headbang in time with you on Dance Dance Revolution.
Two words sum up what the hot topic is on the Future Gamer Chat Forum at the moment: online gaming. The Future Gamer Clan (FGC) has been making good progress, and we are looking for new people to join in the fun. The FGC logo has been completed by "Kaneda", and he's currently looking into getting the skins sorted out for Half-Life. There have been deathmatches aplenty this week on Half-Life from the Forum regulars, and they are looking for new recruits to help eliminate dissonant elements. If you're a keen online gamer, or are just starting out and want to learn more, come along to the Forum and send a posting to "Felix" or "Kaneda". From what we hear, they need all the help they can get.
Other areas covered this week included some debate on whether Future Gamer has too much sports coverage in it. What do you think? Let us know. We also had some postings from readers looking for Dreamcast and PS2 websites, which seem to be a bit thin on the ground. If you know of any decent ones, please drop into the Forum and tell us about them. Finally this week, a group message to "Attica" from everyone in the Forum - "PLEASE stop sleeping with your PC. It's unhealthy behaviour!"
Blue Byte have released a Settlers lll Mission CD which features three new campaigns, 10 new single-player maps and over 20 multiplayer maps. The Mission CD includes a level editor for creating both single and multiplayer maps. Blue Byte have also announced The Settlers lll: Quest of the Amazons. The new entry in the Settlers series features an Amazon race, as Blue Byte's development manager Erik Simon explains. "Fans of the series have been bombarding us for ages with requests to finally let female Settlers pit their skills against their male counterparts. The new Amazon race will no doubt introduce some turbulence into the previously male-dominated Settlers world. The Amazons fight a little differently. We are quite curious to see how the existing Settler races will counter this threat." Quest of the Amazons will be released in September.
Mindscape are to launch a virtual pet for the PC called Babyz. Essentially, your virtual baby does everything you'd expect of the real thing, including nappy soiling, whining, crying and crawling. Why you'd want one is anyone's guess. Anyway, Mindscape's Chuck Kroegel is enthusiastic about the things: "Babyz introduces a realism that is new to virtual life entertainment. These computer babies truly look and act like real baby dolls, and the voice recognition feature makes them even more lifelike." Ah yes, voice recognition. Mindscape are including microphones with the games, so you can goo-goo and gaa-gaa to your heart's content. Whether it'll be released in the UK has not yet been confirmed, but it hits the US in the Autumn. The big question is, can they have the Dancing Baby in a fight?
