Due to alleged legal action from Sony, the emulation site Dave's Classics has gone down. The popular site has been up and down for the past week or so, although most sections have been inaccessible. The only section now working appears to be a chat forum, which has been filled with furious comments from fans the world over, with many venting their anger and frustration at the Japanese mega-corporation. Dave's has been shut down before, over the issue of hosting game ROMs, but as all of these were removed last time, it is not known what the new problem is. Go to Dave's Classics to have your say, providing of course it's up at the moment.
Cavedog Entertainment have decided to cancel the development of their adventure/role-playing title, Elysium. "We want to be the first to let you know that after a great deal of thoughtful consideration, Cavedog Entertainment have decided to stop development of Elysium and are reassigning its talented team members to other projects," reported the company's website. "Specifically, lead designer John Cutter has begun work on a new game, which will be announced at a later date." Maybe this means that we'll be seeing Total Annihilation: Kingdoms in June as promised. Also, it's highly likely that some of the creative resources are being put to use on Amen, Cavedog's challenger to the Half-Life crown.
Japanese reports indicate that Taito's wildly popular train driving simulator Densha Da Go! 2 ("Let's Go By Train!") is currently being ported to the N64. The home version will apparently come complete with new courses and will support Nintendo's speech recognition system.
The 3D accelerator wars are really beginning to heat up. Now that 3dfx Interactive and Creative Labs have staked their pitches, Matrox have strolled in with their new G400 MAX. Targeted at the 'accept no compromise' PC gamer, the G400 MAX is capable of driving a high-end monitor at resolutions up to 2048 x 1536 at 85Hz.
More details have surfaced regarding Square's Seiken Densetsu: The Legend of Mana for PlayStation. You can begin the game as either a male or female adventurer, each having slightly different dialogue and weapons. A 'monster breeding system' has been included, allowing you to capture, breed and train a monster who will then join your party as a non-player character, adding its clout to battle situations. Using the all-new 'action ability system' you can assign different moves to the joypad's shoulder buttons. There will also be a 'land make system' - collect a special artefact, place it on the map and new villages, towns and dungeons will appear for you to explore.
