Prince Naseem drops short

Codemasters delay in-house boxing title until Autumn

Codemasters have announced that an additional three months will be invested in the development of Prince Naseem Boxing. The game, which was originally slated for a June release, will now hit the shelves in the Autumn, barring further mishaps. The developers apparently feel that Naseem has yet to deliver a realistic and intuitive feel.

"Realism is what we're striving for," commented Codemasters' director of game design Richard Darling. "We found the actions of simple movement and punches somewhat limiting and believe the PlayStation can handle a more detailed and refined approach. Thankfully, because of the bespoke animation system we've used, it is not difficult to add animation frames to any boxer's repertoire and that leaves us more time to get the feel of the game spot on."

Codemasters' recent pedigree is exemplary, but with the teething troubles surrounding Naseem and the slightly disappointing-looking if unfinished No Fear Downhill Mountain Biking (preview this ish), these titles may struggle to emulate the high standards set by Colin McRae Rally and TOCA Touring Cars.
