Dynamix take the air war to North Africa
Sierra's Dynamix Studios have announced a new PC combat flight simulator set in North Africa during World War II.
"The 'Battle of Supplies' that took place in North Africa is one of the most important, yet least explored, historical campaigns that pilots faced during World War II," said Mike Jones, executive director of Desert Fighters. "Desert Fighters is a fast-paced combat simulation that pits pilots against enemy planes, supply convoys and ground support in the rigorous terrain and strategic environment of the North African desert."
The harsh desert environment proved to be a logistical nightmare for the forces involved, with each relying heavily on scarce supplies. As a result, a typical mission might involve a strike on an enemy convoy, thus limiting their offensive capabilities. Around 200 missions are expected to make it into the final version, as well as several dynamic campaigns.
30 different aircraft will appear in the game, 18 flyable by the player, representing the four airforces involved - the USAF, RAF, Luftwaffe and the Italian Regia Aeronautica.
Desert Fighters will be making an appearance at E3 next month and is scheduled for an October release.
