Klax is, er, bax

10 years on and Tengen's arcade puzzler returns for the Game Boy Color

Tetris has a lot to answer for. When the puzzle game first wowed gamers around the world it spawned a host of dreadful clones as people attempted to cash in on the genre.

One game that was inspired by Tetris but was actually a lot of fun to play was Klax from Atari spin-off arcade game makers Tengen. The game translated well to home computers and enjoyed a brief period of success before fading from view. It has now returned, in a new conversion by developers Digital Eclipse for the Game Boy Color.

Playing the game involves controlling a horizontally-moving paddle and collecting coloured tiles that fall off the end of a conveyor belt. Collect three tiles of the same colour on the same stack and they disappear. The game's up when your paddle can hold no more tiles. Simple, easy and fun, with a series of difficult secret patterns you can build for extra points. Klax GBC should be in the shops now.
