Atlus Announce PlayStation2 Plans

Megami Tensei game, plus other titles currently in the works for PlayStation2

Atlus have announced that they're currently developing software for Sony's upcoming PlayStation2 console. They have a total of five or six games in the works, with the first of them scheduled to hit stores in Japan as early as March 2000. Game titles weren't announced, but they're said to include sequels to currently popular racing and RPG titles.

The first title to be released uses an advanced "virtual human" biomechanics technology and engineering engine created by MathEngine PLC. This allows developers to create realistic human models that far surpass the current animation quality found in today's games.

"MathEngine's innovative technology is an excellent addition to the Atlus development process," said Mr. Noriyuki Tomiyama, General Manager at Atlus Co Ltd. "Using MathEngine's tools and services, we are able to create a whole new type of game. With the Interactive Human Technology and the advanced features of the PlayStation2, we can test the limits of how good games can be."

The Atlus company spokesperson also stated that a new game in the Megami Tensei series, which is Atlus' most popular series in Japan, is currently planned for PlayStation2.

Atlus believe the PlayStation2 will be a very successful system in Japan and are planning to fully support it.
