| New Syphon Filter 2 Details |
We flush out critical new information on 989 Studios' blockbuster sequel
After the rock-solid sales performance of Syphon Filter, 989 Studios and their little known developer Eidetic went straight into development with the sequel... Syphon Filter 2. While the first game contained a mere 13 levels, the sequel features more than 20 new, totally 360-degree open levels. It's so much bigger it spans two discs; yes, two full discs. Apparently, Eidetic went berserk on the sequel, creating bigger levels and adding new interactive backgrounds to boot.
Syphon Filter 2 also sports a new line of weapons to complement the arsenal from the original. The first one had some great weapons and gadgets, including the Nightvision Rifle, the M-79 Grenade Launcher and the taser - just a few of our favourites - so the second game should offer some extremely cool ones.
The game is slated for a March 2000 release and will appear on PlayStation, with analogue and Dual Shock compatibility. At this point, story details are slim, but we'll have more as the news develops. You can definitely count on Gabe to stick it to the new breed of terrorists.
989 Studios have yet to officially announce Syphon Filter 2 and did not contribute to this story, but we suspect the "official" announcement will come very soon. Very soon indeed. In fact, maybe even tomorrow.
