Sony Japan announce a PDA that works with the PS2, DVDs, TVs, and more
Sony are creating a set of audio-visual products that use a common PDA, or personal digital assistant, Nikkei Net reported today. Differing from the PocketStation, the PDA features communication functions compatible with the IEEE1394, or the iLINK world standard, and will reach the Japanese market by 2001.
Sony's plans for the device include compatibility with a number of their products, such as PlayStation2, TV, DVD devices, digital video machines, set-top boxes for digital broadcasts and hard disk devices for storing images. For example, the PDA can be used to access the TV on-screen menu and set video or DVD machines to record and replay TV programs. They can also take advantage of online e-commerce and music distribution services, as well as receive after-sales service over the Internet.
Hopefully we'll hear more details at this year's E3.
