Square's First PlayStation 2 Fighter?

Dream Factory open up the doors for a first look at new multiplayer PS2 fighter

To the surprise of few and the delight of many, Sony's software darlings Square Soft have plans to release a brand new fighting game on PlayStation 2 at the system's launch, according to Magic Box.

While many suspected that Square's first fighter would be Ehrgeiz 2, no-one thought that Square and their subsidiary Dream Factory would start up a whole new franchise. But according to the Magic Box, which scanned seven screenshots from an unnamed Japanese magazine, Square's first PS2 fighter, which was shown at the Sony demo in spring, is not related to any existing game.

The unnamed new launch title is an action-based fighter featuring multiperson gameplay, interactive environments and large, varied, two-story rooms. The Chinese restaurant scenes from the demo are indeed part of the game, which also includes multiple rooms and large yards, amongst other sections. What looks like 3D CG rendered movies on the demos and the screenshots is real gameplay.
