| Pentium III Chip Prices Plummet |
Intel drop prices on chip sets to meet with competition
Bloomberg News report that Intel have cut prices on their Pentium III chips by up to 41 per cent, most likely to compete with competitors such as AMD. AMD, the largest competitor to chip titan Intel, recently released their latest processor, the 650MHz powerhouse Athlon.
Prices on the Intel chipsets dropped on all but the Pentium III 600, which will stay at the $669 pricepoint:
Pentium III 550: dropped from $658 to $487
Pentium III 500: dropped from $423 to $251
Pentium III 450: dropped from $230 to $183
According to Bloomberg, Intel spokesman Michael Sullivan said that the changes were simply a reflection of the coming Christmas season and that manufacturer's customers were aware of the price cuts "a couple of months ago".
