Nintendo will set up kiosks in Japan that let you download Game Boy games onto blank cartridges
Yet another cool thing in Japan: starting in November, residents will be able to march down to their local convenience store and download select games to a cartridge. The stores will sell Game Boy Memory Cartridges for around £15 (blank EEPROM cartridges), and for an extra cost gamers will simply put the cart in a machine and walk off with a complete Game Boy or Game Boy Color game. Older games will average around £6 and newer ones will be between £6 and £12. Depending on the size of the game downloaded, gamers can store as many as seven games on a single cartridge. This isn't a new thing in Japan - both the Famicom (NES) and Super Famicom (SNES) had similar purchasing options.
There will be a total of 21 Game Boy games for purchase, including Legend of Zelda DX and Donkey Kong Land. By next year, that library will explode to more than 100. One of the first games to be released on this system will be Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, a title that has yet to be released in Japan.
