UK developer gathering sees PlayStation 2

The UK's first PlayStation 2 development conference took place last week in Cheshire. Attendees were given a demonstration of the power of Sony's next console, which is set to launch in Japan next year. Sony also doled out development simulation kits, which is kind of one below a full-blown dev kit. Although some of the developers would have been aware of the new kit - it was shown in Japan last March - the conference gave Sony the opportunity to display just how big a step forward PlayStation 2 promises to be.

Peter Molyneux, former Bullfrog supremo and now grande fromage at Lionhead was impressed. "You have to keep reminding yourself that all Sony had to do was make an incremental improvement over the PlayStation - they've done much more than that," he told trade paper MCV.

Tch. Mr Sony obviously forgot to invite Future Gamer. Still, next time, eh?
