PlayStation2 Launch Titles page 2 of 3

The Bouncer (Fighting/action, Square, Dream Factory)
Although we didn't play this one, Square look to be getting into the gang, or should we say 'group', fighting scenarios. The Bouncer is the game we all saw in the demos last March at the Siggraph show and it strangely enough follows the formula set by Final Fight and Fighting Force, blending action and fighting. Only in this case the game is absolutely gorgeous and looks set to wow crowds with multiple battles and environment-based fighting. In the demo, characters were leap-frogging chairs and picking up tables and hurling them at opponents, a la Capcom's Power Stone. In at least two scenarios, fast and early attackers were slowed down by the camera so that you could get a picture-perfect snapshot of the damage being done. This game is set in beautiful urban settings outside (an industrial wasteland along a ridge overlooking a city, for example) and inside (Chinese restaurants and bars).

Street Fighter EX3 (Fighter, Capcom)
Arika and Capcom put their 3D product to the test with tag-team features and completely 3D characters, movements and backgrounds. This proved to be an early game that still didn't have its full super combos and powerups in place, but it did give gamers an idea of what to look forward to - Capcom fighting excellence.

Eternal Ring (Adventure, From Software)
This demo generated a feeling of romance and adventure, with medieval settings, fantastically textured castles and backgrounds and huge stormy vistas. We could set the camera controls only, which enabled sideways and up and down movement.

Kessen (Strategic sim, KOEI)
Video only. Once again, KOEI showed off their remarkable ability (and tenacity) to create phenomenally vast and powerful sagas and gorgeous looking armour, weapons and realistically moving cavalry. Two armies headed off against one another on a green, grassy field. After gaining composure, the two headed into one another in a rather amusing clash of characters that stopped looking impressive all of a sudden. Very little head-to-head battle animation was present, so at first the two armies just stood around and jabbed at one another for about two minutes. It wasn't until later that they started dying off. No blood here, though.
