MSNBC jump into the rumour fray with projected stats on the console

If you were going to trust a rumour about a new doughnut, wouldn't it be from the writer of Dunkn'Donuts.com? We thought so. MSNBC.com have just done their own piece on the rumours regarding the new Microsoft console and they've added some stats and information to the growing database of X-Box fuzz. It seems that certain developers were shown the X-Box, and given a rundown on some of the features. So what are Microsoft going to bring to the high-bet table?

A 500MHz Intel processor paired with an NVIDIA GeForce 3D accelerator, for starters. The article reports that the graphics chip also seems to accelerate graphics without using the main processor. A multi-gigabyte hard disk will allow for storage of multiple games, tossing out the memory card approach of the competition. 64Mb of RAM put it a little low in terms of current trends, but high for a console of this type. Like the Dreamcast, Microsoft will also have a 56K modem installed with, you guessed it, Internet Explorer.

It sounds solid; the question is, who'll be supporting it? Microsoft don't have the ties that Sony, Sega and Nintendo have in the console industry, but then again, neither did Sony about five years ago.
