ASCII are working on a Game Boy Color version of their popular RPG creation program, RPG School. You'll be able to create your own mini RPGs, designing everything from the characters, dungeons, spells and buildings, right up to the title screen. Best of all, you get to name every monster - woo-hoo! When your masterpiece is finished, you'll be able to transfer it onto your mate's Game Boy using the link cable. RPG School GB will be released in Japan next Spring.
More than 164,000 people attended the Tokyo Game Show on September 17-19, breaking the previous record set at the Spring TGS earlier this year. Around 300 games companies were involved and over 450 new titles were shown. We think that the record figures may owe something to the appearance of PlayStation2...
Western RPG fans are in for a treat over the coming year as Square have announced a plethora of new PlayStation titles. Dew Prism, Vagrant Story and Chrono Cross were confirmed for a US release (so we can get them on import at the very least), with the first arriving in early 2000. No real surprises there then, but it's nice to hear it straight from the horse's mouth. The big news was the announcement of Parasite Eve II, the sequel to a title that received only a lukewarm reception earlier this year. Two fully playable levels were on show in Tokyo, and all in attendance seemed suitably impressed. More on this soon.
