| Westwood Reveal Tiberian Sun Expansion |
The very first look at C&C: Firestorm
"One of the big things we want to do is to give the player an enhanced experience," says Rade Stojsavljevic, producer of Firestorm. "The new missions, new strategies and a compelling new story with new mission briefings really help do that. We didn't want to cheese out and just do text updates."
Here's the story, all told in tasty Westwood video cut-scenes, of course. Mere days after the ending of Tiberian Sun (you did beat it, didn't you?), GDI are clearing out Kane's temple in Cairo, looking for any information on the TacituS and the spread of tiberium they can find. While that's going on, a concurrent NOD story has Slavic desperately trying to get order back. He decides to bring CABAL back online, and when he does, CABAL convinces him it would be a good idea to resume the tiberium revolution. Of course, GDI believe they must stop this, and they talk to CABAL themselves, hoping the computer can help them get information from the TacituS. Let's just say it's not all bunnies and kittens for very long.
The game will ship with 18 new missions and a bevy of cool new playable units, including an artillery piece called the Juggernaut - a walking, three-gun construction that's the GDI counter to NOD artillery - and a multiple bombing thing called the Cyborg Reaper. Here's the lowdown:
Mobile EMP: A GDI vehicle that will disable your opponents' stuff, even forcing underground units to surface. This baby winds up a big electrical charge and then sends out an awesome-looking shockwave that wreaks havoc and mayhem.
Cyborg Reaper: Though we didn't get to see this in action, Stojsavljevic's description had us excited. Only to be found in multiplayer, this puppy fires two missiles, which then split into multiple bomblets, raining bad news on your attackers.
