Video System and Ubi Soft link-up
Japanese publishers Video System have signed an agreement with Ubi Soft to produce licensed Formula One World Championship racing games. Ubi Soft will produce and distribute the games, while Video System retain the publishing role. The agreement covers PC, N64, Game Boy, PlayStation and Dreamcast. The previous F1 World Grand Prix was well received on the N64.
"We are very pleased about this agreement with Ubi Soft. These new, high-quality titles will enable us to offer players even more high-technology F1 products," said Koji Furukawa, CEO of Video System. Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubi Soft, added, "Formula One is the most widely watched televised sporting event in the world. By teaming up with Video System on the F1 licence, Ubi Soft are positioning themselves to attract new customers and continue their worldwide expansion."
The licence covers the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
