New PSX Wrestler

WWF Smackdown looking slicker than a wrestler's baby oil

We've got the first shots of the latest WWF game in the works, created by THQ. Although their WCW efforts have been rather lacklustre, WWF Smackdown is shaping up to be a good 'un. All of the popular skin-tight-pant wearing wrestlers are in there, including The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin, and those who didn't make WWF Attitude (developed by Acclaim) such as the Hardy Boys, Vince and Shane McMahon.

The engine has been adapted from Japanese game All Star Japan Pro Wrestling 4, which is no bad thing. According to eye-witnesses, it's an incredibly detailed and fluid engine that's more than capable of recreating the fast-moving action of the WWF.

All the obligatory modes are included, such as cage matches and Royal Rumbles, without forgetting what was probably the most memorable feature of past WWF games, the create-a-wrestler function. THQ are also promising the ability to meet the people you're about to mutilate backstage and give them a good piece of your mind. Or you could just hit them with a big stick.
