| Dreamcast Reaches One Million |
Console beats corporate predictions by six weeks
Sega have shifted one million Dreamcasts in North America since the September 9 launch - that's a full six weeks ahead of corporate predictions and before the official US shopping frenzy begins after Thanksgiving.
This record-breaking launch has surpassed sales milestones set by other high-profile consumer and electronic products. The PlayStation, which launched in September 1995, took a full year and a half to reach the million mark, although Sony had no proven track record in the console market at that time. The Dreamcast also beat Tyco's sought-after Tickle Me Elmo doll - the Christmas sensation of 1996 took more than five months to hit the magic number.
