EA Make Bond Official

Plans to bring The World is Not Enough to multiple gaming platforms announced

Last month we reported that EA and MGM had reached an agreement to bring the James Bond feature film The World is Not Enough to Nintendo 64 sometime next year. Today the company made the news official and supplied a few new details. Under the agreement, EA will release multiple Bond titles developed for different platforms, including next-generation consoles.

"The same attributes that have contributed to making James Bond a movie legend will translate naturally into making him a valuable long-term videogame franchise," says Frank Gibeau, Vice President of Marketing for EA. "We believe that the Bond character lends itself well to an array of gameplay elements, from intense storylines and characters to action-packed sequences and innovative gadgets. We are very excited about what the future holds in terms of building a successful series of games based on secret agent 007, one of the entertainment industry's most enduring heroes."

The games will be created separately by different developers. The N64 version of The World is Not Enough is being developed by UK Eurocom and is said to be coming along brilliantly. While Electronic Arts wouldn't confirm who the developer for PlayStation is, Black Ops are the most likely candidates after their work on Tomorrow Never Dies.

"We've already started development on the next Bond game," said an EA official, who added that PlayStation would get another Bond title before they go to PlayStation2. While Electronic Arts haven't officially announced which next-gen systems they're aiming to develop for, several sources inside EA have stated that they're looking forward to creating titles on PlayStation2.
