Gaming's Academy Awards

Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences rewards Half-Life, Alpha Centauri

Each year at E3 an industry body known as the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences hands out its awards to the videogame industry. While this year's overall winner was Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64, some PC games were honoured as well.

Half-Life, designed by Valve Software and published by Sierra, was named Action Game of the Year and it also took the overall award for the PC platform as Computer Game of the Year. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri took Strategy Game of the Year honours, while Sierra's Starsiege Tribes was named the best Online Game of the Year.

The awards were handed out at a special industry party at E3, with such celebrity presenters as Sugar Ray Leonard, Ben Stein, Coolio, and Chris Roberts.
