Konami shoot down MGS 64

Konami quash Metal Gear Solid 64 rumours once and for all

Rumours of Konami's strategic third-person action-adventure Metal Gear Solid making its way to the N64 have persisted for more than a year now. However, Konami have never dignified the rumours with any comment. Until now.

IGN spoke with Konami producer Ken Ogasawara, who officially denied the existence of a Metal Gear incarnation for Nintendo's 64bit console.

"Let's squash those rumours right now," Ogasawara said. "There is no Metal Gear Solid for Nintendo 64 and there is no Metal Gear Solid for the Dreamcast."

When asked if the company are considering debuting the title for Nintendo's next-generation console (codenamed Project Dolphin), Ogasawara said that Konami are a multi-console developer and, of course, are always evaluating new hardware.
