Tenchu 2 update

The stealthy prequel to Stealth Assassins promises more weapons, missions and ninja abilities

Activision announced today that they’ve acquired the rights to publish Tenchu 2, the prequel to Tenchu: Stealth Assassins. Under the agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment (Japan), Activision acquired publishing rights for the PlayStation and PC versions worldwide, except in Japan.

The new game highlights most of what you expect from a sequel/prequel: more ninja tools, weapons, and missions, but the distinctive flavour of quiet assassinations, rooftop crawling, and knowledge of the ninja arts has been enhanced. Taking place in Japan's archaic period of the Warring States, Tenchu II enables players to pick from three characters (last year’s game had two), and weaves in more varied mission objectives while adding to the already large list of ninja abilities.

With this new version, gamers will be able to better train themselves. New options include a multi-level Training mode (more in-depth than its predecessor) and a Story mode. But surely the kicker of the new features is the Custom mode, which enables players to create and customise their own levels.

"Tenchu was the first game to introduce stealth-fighting to the action-adventure genre," said Mitch Lasky, senior vice president, Activision Studios. "Tenchu II will further solidify the Tenchu franchise as the innovative leader in the action-adventure category."
