| Namco to Specialise in PlayStation2 RPGs |
Tales of Destiny maker forms new RPG software subsidiary
Namco have announced their intention to create a separate software subsidiary, called Monolith Soft, to bolster their line of role-playing games on PlayStation2.
Perhaps one of the biggest surprises in this announcement is that Squaresoft's own leading game creator, Hirohide Sugiura, has left to become President of Monolith Soft. The new company will capitalise with 30 million yen, 90 per cent of which is to be provided by Namco themselves. Monolith plan to hire about 50 to 60 staff members and have set goals to release new games by as early as 2001.
