"Where's the fire?" asks Highway Patrol officer
Kenwood Technologies released the third CD-ROM drive based on Zen Research's TrueX technology today. The new drive offers an "unparalleled sustained transfer rate ranging from 6.75Mb/sec to 10.8Mb/sec". How can it be sustained if there's a range? What is certain is that it reads up to seven tracks of data simultaneously, thereby offering an improved transfer rate without requiring faster spin rates. What's more, Kenwood are claiming that this drive "virtually eliminates vibration and noise" from the disc. They have no control over the vibrations and noises that you make on your own, though.
The drive should be available now at a suggested retail price of $129.95 (£79).
