Ridge Racer Joins Tekken at PS2 Launch

Namco set to release their leading titles, Tekken and Ridge Racer, at PS2 launch

Namco have announced that they will have two games ready for the launch of PlayStation2 in March 2000. Both Tekken Tag Tournament, the PS2 conversion of the coin-op game, and the yet-to-be-named PS2 Ridge Racer will be available for gamers to buy on March 4, 2000 when PlayStation 2 launches in Japan, according to Japanese trade mag Nihon Keizai Shimbun.

Namco are definitely betting the house on PlayStation2, and with good reason - Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. predict that they'll ship 1 million units to stores on Saturday March 4 and Sunday March 5 in Japan, about four times the quantity of Dreamcasts shipped last year in Japan. Namco's move is unusual and seems somewhat risky, though, especially since Sony plan to release Gran Turismo 2000 at launch.
