Hasbro File Copyright Infringement Suit

Company lawyers discover Mac-Man is simply Pac-Man with an "M" cleverly substituted for the "P"

Hasbro Interactive and their subsidiary Atari Interactive filed a complaint this morning in the US District Court in Boston, Massachusetts. The complaint alleges that eGames, GT Interactive, Xtreme Games, MVP Software, Webfoot Technologies and Varcon Systems "have blatantly copied games for which Hasbro Interactive owns the exclusive copyright". Centipede, Asteroids and Missile Command are just a few of the games in question. Hasbro purchased the rights to several Atari games back in 1998 and have since released updated versions for multiple platforms.

Hasbro General Counsel Barry Nagler affirmed the company's commitment to "protecting our brands and licences to the full extent of the law". The complaint asks simply that the infringing companies "cease production and distribution of, and to recall and destroy the following games: Intergalactic Exterminator, 3D Astro Blaster, TetriMania Master, 3D Maze Man, Tunnel Blaster, UnderWorld, XTRIS, Patriot Command, HemiRoids, Bricklayer, 3D TetriMadness, Mac-Man, 3D Munch Man and 3D Munch Man II". We also have word that cases are pending against Mole Position, Mombat, and M*Bert by popular publisher Masbro Minteractive.
