Language politicians in Quebec get their way: Nintendo games will be in French
Quebec's language minister has called off her province's threatened lawsuit against Sony and Nintendo, claiming the videogame giants have agreed to provide both packaging and videogame materials in French.
Nintendo haven't made any official comment regarding any current or future plans to provide French language videogame materials to the Canadian province.
No deadline has been set for any changes to be made. However, it should be noted that both Sony and Nintendo publish games in French for French-speaking countries. For Nintendo, the solution may be a matter of simply redirecting some of those French language products to Quebec.
French is the official language of Quebec and has been a source of much political debate within Canada. Now that Sony and Nintendo have acquiesced to Quebec's demands, officials in the Canadian province say DVD movies sold in Quebec need to be in French as well.
We'll have more on Quebec, Nintendo and the soap opera that characterises their relationship as soon as there's reason to.
