All those with no money left for food raise your hands
If you're like everybody else in the world, you'd like games to be cheaper. Well, WildTangent are trying to help you out by releasing their second online/downloadable game, Speedway, created using the WildTangent web driver.
The game is pretty impressive for being under 3Mb and is available for free at the WildTangent website. It's pretty simple but is still worth having a look at, just to see what the their web driver is capable of. One of the most impressive things about it is that it was put together in just 11 months by one Java developer.
"It is WildTangent's aim is to change the economics of game development. Speedway is a proof of principle for WildTangent, as well as a sneak peek at things to come," said Alex St. John, CEO of WildTangent.
"One of the toughest parts of game development is the time and money that it takes to produce a title and find a publisher. Our web driver and the game driver, to be released into beta next month, will solve several of these problems. Because both the web and the game drivers are designed for stand-alone or online distribution, developers can release games in increments, selling a level at a time or even providing a level to play in a page on their website. We're making it easier to build, distribute and buy games."
That's good news for all us penny-pinchers. Let's hope they can improve the technology and give us more free stuff.
