| Harrier 2001 Future in Limbo |
Publisher Video System says the game is now on "indefinite hold"
Video System told us today that their anticipated flight simulation Harrier 2001 has been put on "indefinite hold", which is often a polite way of stating that a title has been canned. The company cites "development issues" as the major factor of the game's current, not-so-stable release status. They would not go into details regarding the issue.
The title, which was originally scheduled to release earlier this year before seeing a delay to 2000, is being developed by Paradigm Entertainment, the makers of such polished Nintendo 64 titles as Pilot Wings 64 and Beetle Adventure Racing. Harrier 2001 was previewed for the first (and possibly last) time at last May's Electronics Entertainment Expo in an advanced stage and looked stunning. The game's 3D environments were extremely detailed, particle effects looked amazing and it was all running with a smooth framerate.
From a technical standpoint, Paradigm seemed to have all bases covered. This begs the question, what "development issues" are keeping Harrier 2001 from being released? We contacted Paradigm for further word, but the software house politely refused comment.
More as it develops.
